THESE COATS ARE MORE THAN FASHION — THEY ARE SACRED SYMBOLS OF FEMININE POWER
These coats are more than fashion — they are sacred symbols of feminine power.
Handmade with love, infused with culture, carefully selected colour paletes that reflect the divine feminine and stitched from vintage suzani embroidered fabrics, plush Mongolian and sheepskin fur, textures and style of another era… each piece becomes a second skin for the woman who wears it, an elegant extension and edition to your styling and wardrobe.
This is a wearable prayer — where ancestral threads meet modern elegance, and your presence becomes an offering to the world.
The Heart
BEHIND THIS OFFERING
HEY THERE!
I’M Akara THE DESIGNER AND HERE IS MY STORY
From a young age, I always loved dressing up and collecting vintage clothes. I would explore charity shops wherever I went, captivated by the treasures I could find. At 21, I opened my first online vintage clothing shop, and I was mesmerized by the unique items I could manifest. It was a magical way to earn money while helping others style themselves in extraordinary clothing.
My passion for dressing up and wearing unique clothes started early; I would change outfits multiple times a day, a habit that continues to this day. My mum introduced me to charity shops, and I was enchanted by the hidden gems I discovered, like stepping into Aladdin's cave filled with treasures. I began collecting vintage accessories and clothes, frequently exploring charity shops. I even helped out at my grandma's local charity shop when visiting her, fascinated by what could be found. I’d take dress-up trunks to parties, styling friends and seeing their faces light up in the process.
I opened my first online vintage clothing shop with my partner, who shared my obsession with the retro styles of the '60s and '70s. Together, we manifested incredible finds and traveled around the country sourcing epic items for our online vintage menswear shop. It was a delightful way to make money, and we loved styling people in unique outfits. My obsession continued in Australia, where I sought rare and distinctive pieces in the op shops, which felt like vast department stores. My collection grew, and I vividly remember finding my first Penny Lane '60s coat and a '70s floral maxi dress that fit perfectly while on a modeling tour in a remote town. From that day on, I was hooked on discovering the best vintage coats and eventually began sourcing and selling them on Etsy upon returning to England.
My mother told me stories about a stunning coat she had from Richards' store in the '60s—a tapestry maxi coat with a large hood, tailored to fit perfectly. She wore that coat until it shredded, and I always felt a little sadness that she hadn’t kept her clothes for me from that era, as I have a deep affinity for the '60s and '70s. I remember my past life in the '60s as if it were yesterday, which fueled my search for the best vintage clothes, especially coats. While in Australia, I learned pattern cutting and created my first pair of flare pants and a jumpsuit for a performance with some friends. I had long wanted to work on a collection of my own, and it made perfect sense to design and create my own clothing brand, starting with coats.
After being approached by a supplier of suzani fabrics in Pakistan, who crafted coats from these exquisite textiles—including Afghan and Persian weaves—I realized I was finally aligned with my dream. And so, Native Rose was born, weaving together my love for vintage styling with hand-woven fabrics and Mongolian sheep furs in my own designs.
Over the past ten years, I've explored many boutiques in different countries, gravitating towards brands that prioritise natural fibers and fabrics. I tend to favor neutral tones or pastel palettes, occasionally incorporating more vibrant colors. I've refined my wardrobe, letting go of most synthetic fabrics and opting out of fast fashion, embracing pieces that resonate with my soul. I view these pieces as soul investments, just as I see Native Rose—wearable art reflecting the essence of your spirit.
